A Cultural Feast at Cebu Lechon Festival!
Lechon is undoubtedly the single most recognizable and sought after Cebuano delicacy, its crispy outer layer and juicy, full-flavored inner meat drawing the attention and watering the tastebuds of foodies and pork connoisseurs from all over the world. This beloved dish is a culinary masterpiece that requires long hours in the roasting pit and significant skills to achieve the perfect balance of crispness and full flavor that many have come to love and adore. One may conclude that lechon taste the best here and only here in Cebu.
The 2019 Lechon Festival saw the annual gathering of the greatest homegrown lenchoneros of Cebu, spearheaded by The Mactan Newtown in partnership with the City Government of Lapu-Lapu and the Department of Tourism Region 7 Office. Now on its third year, the rich cultural celebration promised (and delivered) an authentic Cebuano fiesta experience with its mouthwatering array of lechon varieties from the multiple lechoneros from different regions of Cebu, accompanied by the vibrant spectacle of traditional performances and local folk dances.
For an even more unique and immersive dining experience, guests can devour their lechon and chosen lechon dishes and pairings inside the comforts of colorful and iconic Philippine jeepneys stationed within the Mactan Alfresco complex. A traditional boodle fight featuring participants from the annual Ironman 70.3 Philippines and lechon sellers was held on August 9, following the street performance, while live musical performances and a grand fireworks display capped off the festivities.
The event took at the Mactan Alfresco inside The Mactan Newtown township, providing guests with the unique experience of sampling and savoring the mouthwatering varieties of lechon all in one place. Some of the locally homegrown lechon brands that participated in this year’s festival include House of Lechon, Ayers Lechon, Agustus Lechon, Golden Cowrie Lechon Belly, and Mikay’s Lechon.
