A Trip Back to the Past with Kadaugan sa Mactan

Gastronomical destinations and culinary attractions is what makes Lapu-Lapu City a loved destination, and with Kadaugan sa Mactan, it is that time of the year again that this grand celebration to celebrate history and culture has commenced! Kadaugan sa Mactan is an event that is organized to celebrate the Victory of Mactan and understand the history of Lapu-Lapu City through a series of events. This year's theme is "Nurturing Nature for Ecosystem Sustainability" with a message to showcase the natural wonders of Lapu-Lapu City with its thriving tourism industry and their actions to continue caring for the environment. With the massive crowd it has attracted through the years, the organizers will be expecting more hype this year. With the press conference that commenced last April 5, 2019 at Marina Seaview Resto Lounge, we were given a glimpse of what to expect for this year.

Reenactment of the Battle of Mactan One of the major highlights of Kadaugan sa Mactan is the reenactment of the Battle of Mactan between Ferdinand Magellan and Lapu Lapu, will be reenacted at the very same date and area of the actual event. he re-enactment was initiated by former Customs collector David "Boy" Odilao dubbed as "Bahug-Bahug sa Mactan" in 1979. TThis year it will once again take place at the Beach of Barangay, Lapu-Lapu City and will happen this April 27, 2019. Actors will play as the vital characters of that historical event. This year’s battle reenactment will be choreographed by production director Victor Hao where he shares this year’s performance will last around 30-40 minutes. Food Festival A celebration is not complete with a variety of cuisine that will make the experience worthwhile. Every year, one of the most look-forward-to events for Kadaugan sa Mactan is the food festival, which was a brainchild of the Lapu-Lapu City Tourism and Historical Affairs Commission. Lines of food stalls will be situated around Mactan Shrine where customers can choose from a variety of choices from PHP5 to PHP99 which consists of local and international brands which include Zagu, Shake 'n Slurp, Takoyaki, Goldberyy, and many more can be found while cuisine from Mactan Island resorts is served at an affordable price. The food festival will begin at 5:30PM and end at 10:30PM.

Rampada and Reyna Bulakna What would a festival be without a performance? Once again, Kadaugan brings back Rampada’s street dancing and showdown which will happen on April 27 at Hoopsdome along with the search for Reyna Bulakna happening this April 27 at Hoopsdome. Elena D. Berame states that contestants will be donned in costumes inspired by migratory birds that help promote eco-tourism and the historic resort city.

The Launch of a Lapu-Lapu Coffee Table Book Coffee table book The Story of Lapu-Lapu City: An Island Lookout to a Gateway Region launched April 11, 2019 at the launch of Kadaugan of Mactan at Mactan Shrine. This book shares the stories of what Lapu-Lapu City is all about in terms of history, culture, and tourism. The book is published by Soline Publishing Inc. and written by Ahmed Cuizon, Cris Evert Lato-Ruffolo, Erwin Lim, and Andrea Lim.

Dagat sa Kadaugan For those who want to get pumped and fit, this fun run at the Mactan Shrine is something people will enjoy! Courses for 3 kilometer, 5 kilometer, and 10 kilometer will be offered and one can register for PHP50 only! The event will be sponsored by Le Minerale who will provide the water, coffee, and snacks. Le Minerale is also the official water sponsor of the food festival, where their water comes from Jakarta, Indonesia. Summer Island Music Festival What better way to kick off the festivities than with a grand party? The Summer Island Music Festival will be on April 27, 2019 from 4:00PM - 12:00AM at Mactan Newtown which will feature local talents Karencitta, Wonggoys, Bethany, and other acts.

Asides from these series of fun activities, PTCOL Regie Real (Deputy City Director PNP Lapu-Lapu City) ensures all areas will be inspected to make sure each place is safe and that crowd control will be properly implemented. Mario Napule (Officer-In-Charge CTMS) shares the traffic plan and states no road closure this year. The press conference concluded with the Ceremonial Turnover of the Kadaugan Sword with Primeworks sponsorsing the shield of Lapu Lapu.
