Christofle x KARL LAGERFELD Collection Now in Cebu
Karl Lagerfeld’s collaboration with the French luxury house Christofle is debuted in Cebu City at Rustan’s in Ayala Center with its official launch that happened last March 16, 2019 as fashion enthusiasts pay tribute to one of the 21st century’s most acclaimed designers- the Parisian silversmith Christofle, who worked with the late fashion icon to propose an exclusive edition of its most iconic product, MOOD flatware set and decorative case. Inspired by Art Deco art and architecture, Karl Lagerfeld’s design features structured, and graphic lines on the elliptical egg shape, which enhance the contrast of geometry. The brand is evidently more classic and heritage based, taking influence from styles of the past- but with this release, the brand experimented with more contemporary elements.
Christofle was founded in 1830 and was widely known for its pioneering table wear technology. At time, solid silver was immensely popular although extremely expensive, so company came up with an alternative material that looks and feels like solid silver but is more affordable to the general public. The company expanded to jewellery around 10 years ago according to the company’s spokeswoman, who explained that the European market for jewellery is considerably more aggressive compared to the Asian market. Aside from this, she had also informed that the company will feature precious stones in the new 2019 release.
This first-time home decor collaboration with Karl Lagerfeld (who was a prolific actor and photographer) had officially began in October 2018 and is very new launch for the Philippines. There are only 200 pieces in existence of this particular collection, making it an extremely rare and very limited edition release that is unique to the Philippines. The demographic of the heritage-based brand is 60% female and 40% male customers between the ages of 45-65 years old, although the spokeswoman reinforced their intention to reach and resonate with a younger market.
