Creatives Gather for Tropical Futures Forum
How can creativity and design makes cities better? This is where Tropical Futures Institute in collaboration with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region VII along with Happy Garaje create the next design talk of the century. Artists and designers will gather for Tropical Futures Forum. It will be held on September 13 at The Company, IT Park from 1:00PM-6:00PM in time for the celebration of Cebu Design Week. This will be a afternoon where world-class creatives from all over the globe will talk about various topics such as graphic design, branding, design strategy and others that can help spur ones creativity and become an avenue for ones ideas to collaborate.
These speakers from New York, Singapore, Manila, Tokyo, Yamagata, and Cebu, who are influences in their own community, will be sharing about their creative projects that address education, small and medium challengers, film, music, art, and personal growth. The purpose of this talk is to showcase how creativity, design, and innovation can make cities better and adapt in a tropical environment.
"Most of it is about people's work that has a lot of that do-it yourself spirit. You know, the kind that just says 'I think this needs to be here so I would like to make it happen," said Mark Deutsch from Happy Garaje and organizer. The participation of DTI comes in handy with their active involvement in the local creative industry, where they see a future in innovation, technology, and design, they currently have five maker spaces around Cebu used by art and sciences in high school and college students, which are beneficial for industries according to Nannette Arbon, the provincial director for DTI Cebu.
This forum is expected to have a total of 150 attendees consisting of students, young professionals, and Cebuano creatives. The goal of this forum is to create an awareness for design, invest creativity in the Philippines, and see how creativity and innovation can go together hand-in-hand.
